That’s why most of our content is licensed under a CC BY-SA 4.0 license. This means that the content is free to use. All we ask is that the author and/or Polmanarkivet is stated in connection with the publication of the image or content.
However, not all of the content is exclusively owned by Polmanarkivet. This notice provides information on acceptable use and how to determine copyrighted works.
Open Data Policy
We operate an Open Data Policy to support the dissemination and use of information to as many people as possible. This is to encourage knowledge building and further research into the collections. We provide digital images and descriptive object information of objects from our own collections — as well as curate items from cultural institutions worldwide — without restrictions on reuse.
Public domain
Many images used on Polmanarkivet are in the public domain and free from copyright. This means that copyright is no longer applicable and that the objects are public property. You can freely use these digital reproductions without needing permission, including commercial use.
When images or objects are free of copyright, this is explicitly stated in the individual descriptive metadata. In these cases, you will notice “Public domain,” “Public domain mark,” or “PDM” to indicate that the object is in the public domain.
If a copyrighted person or organisation is listed with the copyright notice, copyright does still apply. You will need to seek permission from the copyright owner in those instances.
Acknowledging sources
We consider it good practice to state the name of the creator of the original material or object when using items on our website. We also appreciate it when Polmanarkivet is cited as the source when objects and data are reused. These recommendations are from the Europeana Public Domain Usage Guidelines.
Use of the Polmanarkivet logo, brand identities, or trademarks
Any use of the Polmanarkivet logo, brand identities, trademarks, or Polmanarkivet design assets cannot be used without prior consent from Polmanarkivet.
Third-party intellectual property

- © photographer/creator

While we have made all reasonable efforts to obtain permission from the copyright owners to post content to our website, we cannot allow any additional uses ourselves. Apart from any use permitted under the law, no part of Third Party material on this website may be reproduced by any process without prior permission from that Third Party. You will need to contact any Third Party for permissions for your own use.
Each item or object in our collection will specify the rights to that image.
