What are memberships?
Memberships are subscriptions that unlock extra content, a Members’ newsletter, and other exclusive material all while supporting us to further our research.
There are three levels of membership: Friend, Chronicler and Steward, each with their own benefits. As a Friend, get access to the newsletter to be notified of new content. As a Chronicler, get access to exclusive content, premium posts, and behind-the-scenes content. As a Steward, get special privileges, an acknowledgment in our Annual Review, and an exclusive "Steward Kit."
All plans support our mission to illuminate the lives and histories of the Polman family.
How often will I receive newsletters or content as a Member?
We want to make sure that your subscription brings value to you. The Members’ Newsletter is sent monthly. We aim for 12 issues per calendar year.
The Chronicler and Steward tiers also entitle you to premium posts and access to all of our content. We try to post one to two premium articles per month, with additional smaller updates and posts.
Paid subscriptions also include other perks, which are listed on each tier.
What is the "Steward Kit?"
The official Steward Kit is a special welcome gift exclusively for our Steward subscribers. This physical kit includes a foil-stamped thank you card with a handwritten message, membership gift, and more.
Due to the high production and shipping costs, the delivery of the Steward Kit varies based on your subscription plan:
- Annual Subscriptions: If you subscribe to an annual Steward plan, your Steward Kit will be sent out immediately.
- Monthly Subscriptions: If you choose a monthly subscription, you must maintain your subscription for three months before receiving the Steward Kit. This ensures that kits are not sent out to subscribers who may cancel shortly after receiving them.
To receive your Steward Kit sooner, consider opting for the annual subscription plan. Only current Stewards who meet the three-month requirement will be eligible to receive the kit.
Is this secure?
Yes, subscriptions are managed by Stripe to securely process payments. Stripe uses best-in-class security practices to maintain a high level of security and encrypts sensitive data both in transit and at rest. Stripe and Polmanarkivet use Hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS).
Credit card data is sent securely to Stripe before the sign-up form is submitted. We never see your credit card data. Stripe is PCI-and GDPR-compliant and secure.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription whenever you wish. To cancel, please follow these steps:
- Sign in to your account at polmanarkivet.com
- Click on the Account button in the top right corner of the screen and select ‘Change’ next to your subscription category
- Scroll to the bottom, and click "Cancel subscription." In the next window, click "Confirm cancellation."
No matter when you cancel, you will retain access for the period you paid for. Subscription management is fully in your control, so we do not offer refunds unless there are extenuating circumstances—please email us at hej@polmanarkivet.com
NOTE: If you click 'Manage' next to your email preferences and switch email delivery off, this does not cancel your paid subscription. It simply stops email delivery. Likewise, canceling your paid subscription will not unsubscribe you from the free email.
Can I unsubscribe from the free newsletter?
Yes, there are two ways you can unsubscribe from the newsletter:
- Click the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any newsletter you receive
- Or sign in to your account and click the 'Account' button. In the 'Emails' box, click 'Manage.' At the bottom, click the button that says "Unsubscribe from all emails."
Will I still have access to paid content if I cancel my subscription early?
You will continue to have access to your subscription for the period you've already paid for, regardless of when you cancel. Subscription management is fully in your control, meaning you're responsible for handling cancellations. Once you cancel, your access will cease at the end of the paid period. Please note: you won't receive a notification when this happens—you'll simply lose access to the paid features when the period expires. If you're worried about forgetting the auto-renewal, you can cancel your subscription in advance through the usual cancellation process.
Can I change from a monthly to an annual plan?
Yes, you can. If you switch to an annual subscription from a monthly subscription, you will be immediately upgraded to an annual subscription, and your year of paid access will start on the date you upgrade. That means if you have time left in the month you already paid for, it will be lost; therefore, if this concerns you, consider waiting until your current paid month has nearly or totally run out before upgrading to an annual subscription.
If you switch from an annual to a monthly subscription, you will retain access to the site through the annual period for which you paid, and then will be charged monthly after that. (This is a good solution if you are concerned about losing track of annual auto-renewal, but wish to prevent gaps in service.)
Can I gift a subscription?
Yes, you can! Sign-up as you normally would but enter the giftee's email as the recipient at checkout and complete the transaction. Email hej@polmanarkivet.com with the subject "Gift subscription" and attach proof of your purchase (e.g. the credit card charge, or have your giftee forward you the receipt email), plus the giftee's email, and we can cancel auto-renewal for you if desired.

Can I update my email address or other personal information?
