Sunnerå herrgård, 1946

Sunnerå, Ryssby

Title

Sunnerå herrgård, 1946

Description

Sunnerå is a manor house and small village outside Ryssby in Ljungby municipality. Sunnerå is located at the south-eastern end of Lake Ryssby.
The first time the farm is mentioned, it belonged to the knight Knut Grundis, who in 1445 gave the farm as a gift to his wife Birgitta Haraldsdotter (Snedbjälke). In 1467, Sunnerå was owned by the knight and councillor Gustav Olsson Stenbock, who in that year traded it to Benkt Kaare.
In the mid-1500s, the farm was incorporated into the Gyllenstiernagodset. In the 1580s, Sunnerå was the seat of ‘well-to-do’ man Erik Månsson (Stierna), but was soon reduced to a common freehold. Sunnerå is the only main farm in Ryssby that can be directly linked to the high estate.
In addition to this manor, there was also a tax manor in Sunnerå. These two farms became armouries during the reduction and were held for a time by peasants, but in 1728 the cavalryman Karl Ridderborg bought the various parts of the homestead and built a corps-de-logi. Parts of this remain in the main building that still exists in Sunnerå, with a garden, park and mill complex.
